Vienna Museum – this is a chain of museums that have exhibits connected to the history of the city of Vienna. Its two main buildings are at Karlsplatz and Hermesvilla (a one-time palace and hunting grounds for Hapsburg nobility). At Karlsplatz, the history of Vienna is documented, starting with the first settlements on the Danube and the Vindobona camp on the northern border of the Roman Empire, to the residence of the dukes of Babenberg and the 640 years of Habsburg rule, right up to the present time. Hermesvilla (where Empress Elisabeth resided during the late 19th century), is now a popular showcase for remarkable special exhibitions on cultural historical topics.
