Ópera Estatal de Viena

Vienna State Opera (Opernring 2, Vienna) – this is an opera house that was built in the 1860s and was originally known as the Vienna Court Opera (Wiener Hofoper), and was given its present name in 1920 (after the fall of the Austrian royal family). Various operas and theatrical productions were held there over the years (using compositions often written by famed Austrian classical musical innovators such as Mozart). With the opera house incurring severe damage from American bombardments toward the end of World War II in March 1945 (including the loss of props and costumes for various productions), it went through stages of reconstruction, until it was officially reopened in 1955. At present, this opera house holds as many as 60 operas per year, as well as 10 ballet productions.
