Schloss Hof

Schloss Hof (Schloss Hof 1, Schlosshof, Austria) — just a 45-minute ride east of Vienna (via routes A4 and B9), with an ideal connection to the Vienna-Budapest motorway and within sight of the Slovakian capital Bratislava, a fascinating Baroque world of experience awaits tourists: the imperial Schloss Hof, which was built for Prince Eugene of Savoy in 1726.

The apartments of Maria Theresa, Emperor Joseph II. and Prince Eugene have been renovated in their authentic style and now form a charming ensemble of baroque attractions. The authentically planted, extensive Baroque garden arranged over seven terraces is as magnificent as it was at the time of the princes: artistic formal flowerbeds, dreamy arcades and richly decorated fountains serve on the one hand as a quiet refuge for a relaxing time, and on the other as a grandiose setting for feudal feasts and numerous events for the whole family.

The Meierhof (dairy) of the palace is one of the most renowned baroque buildings of its kind in central Europe. The authentically furnished utility buildings give an insight into the old handicrafts of woodturners, potters, schnapps distillers and basket weavers; rare species of domesticated animals, including Wallachian sheep and White donkeys are bred. Fruit and vegetables are also organically grown here and offered for tasting.

Admission: €12 (adult), €8 (children 6-18), free for children under 6 years. €32 (Family ticket — 2 adults and up to 3 children). Hours: 10 am – 6 pm (March 25, November 3). Check the Schloss Hof’s website for schedules of various tours given on site: www.schlosshof.at
